Russ Ford russford@cableone.net P.O.B.693 "Thanks..russ" ____________________________________________________________________________________ Chilkoot Pass Slogan: if 'ya ain't bold, 'ya gets no gold. Slightly over 100 years ago during the Klondike gold rush of 1899 prospectors dealt with some tremendous obstacles. Just getting there being one of the largest obstacles. First they had to get to California which could take months or years in those days. If they hadn't been killed by Indians or the hardships of that trip, they had to sell everything they owned to buy a boat ticket to Skagway Alaska. When their ship arrived they were immediately confronted with the Chilkoot Pass. A snow covered mountain trail that immediately rose several thousand feet from the harbor. At the top of the mountain they were met by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who would not let anyone proceed until they had accumulated enough provisions for the winter. So back down they went. Many trips were required before they met the requirements to pass through the Yukon. Their slogan as they climbed the Pass again and again was, "if ya ain't bold, ya gets no gold". Many men and much livestock died along the trail. Today we are faced with new laws and restrictions against mining and prospecting being thrown at us from governmental agencies and environmental groups and others. Some wonder if prospecting for gold will survive. Prospectors have always been strong, resourceful, and determined. I doubt these modern day Doom Sayers will have much effect. They seem to forget that everything we consume is either grown or mined. Let the city boys make all the laws they want... The "Bold" will continue to prospect regardless.I pray they will find me frozen with gold in one hand and have to pry my pick from the other. May stealth be with you.... rf _____________________________________ Copyright © 2007 Arizona Gold Miners Supply/Beck Drywashers/russfordProspecting.com All Rights Reserved. |
